Guilty pleasures in music
« on: March 17, 2015, 08:43:31 PM »
We all have it. Some kind of music, band or song that just seems uncharacteristic for the person that we are.

Oddly, I found mine by browsing through a thread just like this many moons ago.

Hi, I'm Mr. A (Hi Mr A!) and I like... Reggetion

Strangely, I tend to play it a lot when I'm designing interfaces or websites.

I am.

Sometimes I wonder if I go too far, and then I wonder if I don't go too far enough.

I don't feel guilty about liking any type of music. I mostly prefer rock, blues and classical, but my Pandora stations include folk, metal and industrial. I like every type of music except jazz. I keep thinking I should like jazz, as it's always referred to as smart people's music, but I don't. Maybe I feel guilty about that.. ???

I own a cracked and worn out N Sync Christmas CD from the mid 1990's.

I haven't re-purchased it on iTunes to add it to my digital collection.... but I haven't thrown out the CD, either.

Personally, I don't think anyone should feel guilty about the kind of music that pleases them.

I mostly listen to various types and eras of rock music. Or some have joked that I'm a metal hippie punk.

The again, my music collection also has plenty of Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Also, I've been known to belt out a Taylor Swift tune from time to time.

When I think of "guilty pleasures", I think of a handful of songs/albums/artists which fall far from the collection of genres one typically enjoys. I typically love anything progressive (rock, folk, classical) and a ton of heavy metal, but I also like t.A.T.u., Tech N9ne, Kelly Clarkson... and a couple other albums that provoke the question "uh... is this yours?" when my vinyl/CD/cassette collections are browsed. However, if I were to start a Spotify / Pandora station for Tech N9ne, I'd end up trying to skip all tracks other than his.
